Rock and Bowl

Don’t you hate it when you have to physically lift up your bowl to tip the dregs of your midnight Cocoa Puffs into your gaping maw?  Me too.  That’s why my dear lady friend, Ashley “design whizz” Thorfinnson (it’s a nordic name, they love their consonants), designed this bowl:

Above is the bowl in it’s filled state.

Below is the bowl empty – see how it tipped?

She also has a picture of the bowl where it shows its range of motion but for some reason that one makes me kind of dizzy, so I didn’t put it on my blog.

The bowl is a super good idea for lazy folks like myself and also pleasantly conceptual as described by Ashley herself:

“This bowl is meant to enhance the user’s dining experience and awareness through a subtle play on balance. Filling the bowl with food causes the bowl to balance in a standard, horizontal position. As the food is eaten, the bowl slowly rocks back towards the user, making the remaining food more accesible and marking the end of the meal.”

Like a seesaw for food! – Ashley, if you want to use that as your tag line then you can have it for a beer.

If you’re a design mogul, an editor for Dwell magazine or buyer for Ikea, then you can find out more about Ms. Thorfinnson’s designs here
